About Us

Dr. Birdwell majored in chemistry at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and graduated from the College of Dentistry at University of Tennessee in 1972. He has been serving patients in Anderson, Knox, and surrounding counties in a solo dental practice since that time. He has volunteered for many years with Remote Area Medical and more recently with Volunteer Ministries. He has provided dental care and training to patients and trainees in Central America and Asia. He enjoys sailing, water skiing, scuba diving, and hiking.

Elisa, RDH, has been working with Dr. Birdwell since 1986. While attending East Tennessee State University, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the College of Dental Hygiene and currently holds a certificate in Local Anesthetics. She provides highly skilled dental cleaning, periodontal scaling service, and dental education. Along with spending time with her family, she enjoys hiking to waterfalls in the Smoky Mountains.

Morgan, RDH, graduated from Roane State Dental Hygiene Program in 2014 and currently holds a certificate in Local Anesthetics.  Working with Dr. Birdwell shortly after graduation, she is skilled in dental cleaning and periodontal scaling, seeing all new patients who have not previously had regular dental care.  She has a love for people and the outdoors.  In the winter she loves to ski and in the summer spends time at the lake.

Carolyn, RDA, has worked with Dr. Birdwell since 1991 and attended Pellissippi State Community College. She graduated from the Easter Dental Assisting Program. She is certified in coronal polishing and is trained as a first responder. She received her certificate in prosthetic functions from the College of Dentistry in Memphis and is also certified in coronal and is trained as a first responder. She specializes in clinical skills, communication with patients, and dental education. She enjoys spending time with her church, family, and community.

Mary Jane, RDA, has worked with Dr. Birdwell since 2003 after attending Pellissippi State Community College and graduating from Nashville Technology Dental Assisting Program.  She received her certificate in prosthetic functions from the College of Dentistry in Memphis and is also certified in coronal polishing, nitrous oxide monitoring, and dental radiology.  When not at work she enjoys spending time with her family.

Angela, Office Manager, joined the team in 2000 and attended Roane State Community College. She manages the front office, schedules appointments, helps evaluate the best use of patients’ dental insurance benefits, works with insurance companies, and addresses billing issues. She spends all of her spare time with her family at her children’s sporting events.

Megan, one of Dr. Birdwell’s newer staff members, joined the practice as Front Office Coordinator in the Fall of 2015. Megan assists patients with scheduling their appointments, accepting payments, and submitting insurance claims on their behalf. She will likely be one of the persons with whom you speak if you call the office with any questions or concerns. Megan attended East Tennessee State University, where she graduated magna cum laude with a BS degree in Psychology in 2008. When not at work, Megan enjoys mountain biking, hiking, and spending time with her teenage son.

Trina, Patient Services Representative, RDA, has been part of the team since 1990.  She attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and the University of Memphis.  She received her RDA from the Dental Staff School Knoxville. She assists patients with appointments, insurance, and billing questions. Trina is the mother of the office mascot, Aislyn. She enjoys scuba diving and reading.

Jewel, DNP, APRN, graduated from the University of Tennessee in Memphis (BSN) and Knoxville (MSN) and Rush University in Chicago (DNP). As newly weds they started the practice together, and through the years she has worked in various capacities, including bookkeeping, financial and office management, and medical consultation. She provides Primary Medical Care at Cherokee Health Systems’ clinic in downtown Knoxville and works with healthcare for the underserved in India. She enjoys running, hiking, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren.
